Meet our newest Councillor Amber China, who joined the Council in August 2026. Amber has a longstanding interest in local government and communities, having studied History and Politics at university. Her professional background includes mechanical building services engineering, where she worked on ventilation and fire safety systems for major hospitals, stadiums and airports, before moving into education.
Amber went on to co-found and run an alternative provision on Blind Lane, which specialises in supporting children and young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
As such, Amber has a strong knowledge of the local area and connections with families, schools, and community organisations. She has a particular interest in strengthening community engagement and ensuring residents feel informed, heard and able to participate.
Coming from a farming family, Amber also has a keen interest in conservation, biodiversity, and responsible land management. Particularly, Amber wants to make outdoor spaces and environmental projects more accessible to people with SEND.
