Wooburn and Bourne End: Winners of Buckinghamshire’s Best Kept Village Competition
In 2025, Wooburn and Bourne End finished joint Runner-Up in the Pushman Cup for Buckinghamshire’s Best Kept Village (BBKV), coming within three points of the overall winner.
This year, we have gone one better and won the Pushman Cup outright! We are so proud of this achievement in only our second year of entry.
Our entry was judged during July, and we improved our score to achieve 194 marks out of a maximum 200.
Judged on a range of criteria, we received scores of 100% in most sections – with numerous compliments from the judges! They noted that the quality of our competition entry was exceptional, with clear walking routes marked and photographs which really helped with identification. Our entry also pointed to strong evidence of community engagement, thanks to articles on our websites, newsletters, social media, and posters.
We were praised for the quality of our Green Spaces, including children’s play areas, cricket/tennis facilities, the new path around Wooburn park, and the beauty of the Warren Nature Reserve conservation area.
There were 100% scores for our Floral displays: hanging baskets and flower beds in Wooburn and planters in Bourne End; our general features, hedges, verges, and wildflower area were in very good order; and bus stops, bus shelter noticeboards, information signs were informative and very clean. The War memorial was excellent too.
As the Parish council we would like to pay tribute to all the local organisations and resident who have contributed to the winning of this award, as well as our Parish ground staff for their tireless maintenance of the Council green spaces and verges. Special mention must go to Wooburn Residents Association and the dedicated BBKV Volunteer network supporting tidy ups, litter picking, and planting across the Parish.
